Requirements for using mobile wireless services
● Configuring the RTU
For the communication of the RTU with a master station via mobile wireless at least the
following parameters must be configured:
– Activation of the mobile wireless interface with suitable parameters on the WBM page
– Configuration of the protocol-specific parameter on the WBM page "Telecontrol".

You require a suitable contract with a mobile wireless network provider, refer to the
section Scope of delivery, accessories, requirements (Page 33).
● Plugged-in SIM card
The SIM card belonging to the mobile wireless contract is plugged into the RTU.
When possible, insert the SIM card in the RTU prior to mounting and connecting up, see
section Inserting the SIM card and SD card (Page 56).
With contracts with a PIN, the PIN must be configured, refer to the section Mobile
wireless settings (Page 111).
● Locally available mobile wireless network
Make sure that a configured mobile wireless network is available in the area of the
station, refer to the section Mobile wireless settings (Page 111).

SD card / using and formatting SMC
Formats of the memory cards
If you want to use a card as an exchangeable storage medium, the formatting must meet the
requirements of the RTU:
● SIMATIC Memory Card (SMC)
Directly from the factory an SMC is already correctly formatted and can be used in the
RTU without any further preparation.
● Standard SD card
File format FAT32
Using an SMC in a card reader
If you use an SMC in a commercially available card reader under Windows, the card must
always be disabled using the "Eject" or "Safely remove hardware" function before you take
the card from the card reader. Otherwise loss of data may result.
