Editing configuration files
You can edit and change a configuration file saved on the PC with a text editor.
Make sure that you make the changes consistently. Do not change any data if you are not
sure that it does not contradict settings at another location. Example: Activated telecontrol
communication along with the time-of-day synchronization method NTP is inconsistent.
Inconsistent configuration files are rejected by the RTU.
Note
No editing of encrypted entries
Encrypted entries of a configuration file, entries such as passwords or the OpenVPN key
must not be changed.
If encrypted parts are changed, the RTU rejects the configuration file when you try to load it.
Note
Editing configurations with a text editor
When editing a configuration file with a text editor, make sure that you do not use any special
characters but only characters of the following ASCII character sets:
• 0x30 .. 0x39 (0 .. 9)
• 0x41 .. 0x5A (A .. Z)
• 0x61 .. 0x7A (a .. z)
See also section Permitted characters and parameter lengths (Page 77).
If you use special characters you need to save the file in the UTF-8 format.
