The Internet fax and network scanner (i.e., the transmission of received Internet fac-
similes to personal computers) functions enable the facsimile function to be executed
in an e-mail format by attaching the fax image to an e-mail as a TIFF (Tagged Image
File Format) file. SMTP (Simple Mail Transfer Protocol) is used for the sending
protocol and POP3 (Post Office Protocol version 3) and SMTP for the reception pro-
tocol.
Transmission
An e-mail message is sent when an e-mail address is specified. This can be done
either via one-touch keys or by direct entry. Mail can also be sent as a broadcast
transmission using the normal operations and also sent to a group destination (group
can't include combinations of e-mail addresses and telephone numbers).
Reception
The e-mail is received in memory, making it necessary to check the unit for e-mail.
This can be done in two ways: 1) by pressing start when nothing is in, and 2) by
setting the POP interval timer for regular checks.
