BULLETIN NUMBER:
APPLICABLE MODEL:
GESTETNER – P6020/6014
RICOH – AP2000/1400
SAVIN – SLP20/14
SUBJECT:
DIRTY BACKGROUND / MECHANICAL NOISE
SYMPTOM:
1. A dirty background area is located in the center of the printed page. See Diagram A below.
2. A mechanical noise occurs and an all black image is printed.
CAUSE:
1. The central part of the Toner Collection Coil is bent outward by the weight of the collected toner. The
collected toner then drops out of the bent coil area of the cleaning section and when it falls onto the
paper, it creates a dirty background. Please note, this problem is limited to the commercially
manufactured toner cartridges only (and does not occur when using the toner cartridge initially supplied
with the machine).
2. The noise occurs when the Cleaning Blade flips. Since the Cleaning Blade is located between the
Charge Roller and the Drum, the Charge Roller cannot charge the Drum's surface, causing an all black
image to be printed.
SOLUTION IN THE FIELD:
Replace the toner cartridge
MACHINES IN PRODUCTION:
1. To support the central part of the Toner Collection Coil and therefore prevent the Coil from being bent,
one clip will be added from September 1999 commercial toner cartridge production runs.
2. To prevent the cleaning blade from slipping out of position, the amount of setting powder applied to the
Cleaning Blade has been increased from June 1999 mainframe and commercial toner cartridge
production runs.
NOTE: The countermeasures described above apply to both G031 and G032 machines.
