TIP: If you use Google for your contacts, you may already have set up synchronization when
you setup your Gmail account (see the ''Sync Google Contacts'' section of Chapter 1: Email
Setup, on page 46).
Now ask yourself: ''Is all my information safely stored on my computer?''
Then ask: ''Is all my BlackBerry information synchronized or shared with the information
in my computer software?''
Synchronizing your BlackBerry with Desktop Manager is very important. Your data will
be safe and backed up or shared with the correct program on your computer-- - making
things like your Calendar, Address Book, and Tasks more useful.

Set Up the Sync

The first thing to do is to open your Desktop Manager software as you usually do by
clicking on the Desktop Manager icon on your Home screen.
1. Connect your BlackBerry to your computer
using the USB cable and make sure you
see your BlackBerry PIN number in the
lower left corner instead of the word None.
2. Then, click the Synchronize icon.
3. Before you sync for the first time, click on
the Synchronization link right under where
it says Configure on the left-hand side of
the screen.
4. Click on the Synchronization button in the
right side next to Configure
synchronization settings for my desktop
program.
