Traveling: Maps and More
If you are traveling with your BlackBerry, there are a few things you should know how to
do. There are plenty of mapping applications that use the global positioning system
(GPS) location in the BlackBerry to help you find your destination and provide you with
turn-by-turn directions.
If you are going to another country, there are some definite things to do before you take
off so you do not get surprised with a huge data roaming phone bill.

Traveling Internationally

Some BlackBerry smartphones are equipped for international travel, and some are more
of a challenge. Networks in the United States like Verizon and Sprint use CDMA
technology---- - widely available in North America, but not in other places. BlackBerry
smartphones that use SIM cards (AT&T and T-Mobile) in the United States are easier to
use throughout the world.
We always recommend that you call your cell provider well in advance of your trip to see
if there is an international feature you can turn on.

Avoiding a Surprisingly Large Roaming Phone Bill

We have heard of people who traveled to another country being surprised with $300 or
$400 monthly data or voice roaming charges after their trips. You can avoid these costs
by taking a few easy steps before and during your trip.
Checking to See If You Have a SIM Card inserted
If you are traveling to a country where you will need to connect to a GSM network, you
will need to have a SIM Card in your BlackBerry. Most times, with a BlackBerry Bold,
you will already have a SIM card pre-inserted by the phone company.
You can check that you have a SIM card by clicking on the Options icon followed by
