Configuring The MAC Address Table

Use the MAC Address Table Configuration page to configure dynamic address learning or to assign static
addresses to specific ports. Switches store the addresses for all known devices. This information is used to pass
traffic directly between the inbound and outbound ports. All the addresses learned by monitoring traffic are
stored in the dynamic address table. You can also manually configure static addresses that are bound to a
specific port.

Disables the automatic aging of dynamic entries. (Address aging is enabled by
default.)
The time after which a learned entry is discarded. (Range: 10-1000000 seconds;
Default: 300 seconds)
Learning is done automatically as soon as a frame with an unknown source MAC
address is received. (This is the default.)
No addresses are learned and stored in the MAC address table.
Only static MAC address entries are used, all other frames are dropped.
Make sure that the link used for managing the switch is added to the Static MAC
Table before changing to secure learning mode. Otherwise the management link
will be lost, and can only be restored by using another non-secure port or by con-
necting to the switch via the serial interface.
Note: If the learning mode for a given port in the MAC Learning Table is grayed
out, another software module is in control of the mode, so that it cannot be
changed by the user. An example of such a module is the MAC-Based
Authentication under 802.1X.
Static MAC Table Configuration
VLAN ID - VLAN Identifier. (Range: 1-4095)
MAC Address - Physical address of a device mapped to a port.
A static address can be assigned to a specific port on this switch. Static addresses
are bound to the assigned port and will not be moved. When a static address is
seen on another port, the address will be ignored and will not be written to the
address table.
Port identifier.
