Switch Overview The NXA-ENET8POE Gigabit Ethernet Switch features 8 x 1000 Base-T ports and is designed for homes and businesses that require a managed network for efficient handling of voice, video, and data applications. The NXA-ENET8POE transmits both power and data through a single cable to eight remotely located Power-over-Ethernet (PoE) enabled devices such as AMX Touch Panels, Wireless Access Points, VoIP Phones and IP Surveillance cameras.

(Dharan), Taiwan, Thailand, Uruguay (FG2255-60K) NXA-ENET8POE Architecture The NXA-ENET8POE employs a wire-speed, non-blocking switching fabric. This permits simultaneous wire- speed transport of multiple packets at low latency on all ports. The device also features full-duplex capability on all ports, which effectively doubles the bandwidth of each connection.
The NXA-ENET8POE includes a display panel (FIG. 1) for key system and port indications that simplify installation and network troubleshooting. Power Supply Socket The power socket is located on the rear panel of the NXA-ENET8POE (FIG. 1). The standard power socket is for the AC power cord. NXA-ENET8POE Gigabit PoE Ethernet Switch...
IP telephones or access points. You can easily connect a PoE device to a switch port and allow power to be supplied over the connecting cable. Each of the eight ports on the NXA-ENET8POE can provide power to a connected device.
Meeting Room Making VLAN Connections The NXA-ENET8POE supports VLANs that can be used to organize any group of network nodes into separate broadcast domains (FIG. 5). VLANs confine broadcast traffic to the originating group, and can eliminate broadcast storms in large networks. This provides a more secure and cleaner network environment.
1000BASE-LX: 5 km (3.1 miles) for single-mode fiber 1000BASE-LH: 70 km (43 miles) for single-mode fiber However, power budget constraints must also be considered when calculating the maximum cable length for your specific environment. NXA-ENET8POE Gigabit PoE Ethernet Switch...
Network Planning Installing the NXA-ENET8POE Selecting a Site The NXA-ENET8POE can be mounted in a standard 19-inch equipment rack or on a flat surface. Be sure to follow the guidelines below when choosing a location. The site should: Be at the center of all the devices you want to link and near a power outlet.
Check the front-panel LEDs as the device is powered on to be sure the Power LED is on. If not, check that the power cable is correctly plugged in. NXA-ENET8POE Gigabit PoE Ethernet Switch...
The NXA-ENET8POE controls the power and data on a port independently. Power can be requested from a device that already has a data link to the switch. Also, the switch can supply power to a device even if the port’s data connection has been disabled.
50/125 or 62.5/125 micron multimode fiber optic cabling with an LC connector at both ends. The NXA-ENET8POE use lasers to transmit signals over fiber optic cable. The lasers are compliant with the requirements of a Class 1 Laser Product and are inherently eye-safe in normal operation.
Use sequential numbers for cables that originate from the same equipment. Differentiate between racks by naming accordingly. Label each separate piece of equipment. Display a copy of your equipment map, including keys to all abbreviations at each equipment rack. NXA-ENET8POE Gigabit PoE Ethernet Switch...
To configure it with an IP address other than the default: Place the NXA-ENET8POE close to the PC that you intend to use for configuration. It helps if you can see the front panel of the switch while working on your PC.
Browser-Based Configuration Pages Configuration Page Interface The NXA-ENET8POE provides an embedded HTTP web agent. Using a web browser, you can configure the device and view statistics to monitor network activity. The web agent can be accessed by any computer on the network using a standard web browser (Internet Explorer 5.5 or above, or Mozilla Firefox 1.0 or above).

You can display statistics on network traffic from the ports. These statistics can be used to identify potential problems with the NXA-ENET8POE (such as a faulty port or unusually heavy loading). All values displayed have been accumulated since the last system reboot, but can be reset to zero by clicking the Clear button. The current statistics are not displayed until you click the Refresh button.

The reason for the “quiet-period”: If a re-authentication fails, the IEEE 802.1X standard enforces a so-called “quiet-period” in which the authenticator (switch) shall be quiet and not re-try another authentication – also packets from the supplicant are discarded. In this way, “brute-force” attacks are prevented. NXA-ENET8POE Gigabit PoE Ethernet Switch...

Note: Because end-stations, like PCs, are not usually VLAN aware, they do not create VLAN-tagged frames. As a result, this method of prioritization is not ideal when many PCs are connected to the NXA-ENET8POE. Browser-Based Configuration Pages The NXA-ENET8POE can provide DC power to a wide range of connected devices, eliminating the need for an additional power source and cutting down on the amount of cables attached to each device. Once configured to supply power, an automatic detection process is initialized by the switch that is authenticated by a PoE signature from the connected device.

Forgot or Lost Password If you have forgotten the administration password to the NXA-ENET8POE, you can return it to its factory default state by following these steps: Remove the power cord from the back of the switch.
Disconnect the power cord and THEN disconnect the network cable. Reconnect the power cord. The NXA-ENET8POE is now reset to its factory defaults. After completing this procedure, the password will be admin and the network IP address will be returned to the default of 192.168.2.10.
Also be sure that the length of any twisted-pair connection does not exceed 100 meters (328 feet). The RJ-45 ports on the NXA-ENET8POE support automatic MDI/MDI-X operation, so you can use straight- through cables for all network connections to PCs or servers, or to other switches or hubs. In straight-through cable, pins 1, 2, 3, and 6, at one end of the cable, are connected straight through to pins 1, 2, 3, and 6 at the other end of the cable.
(When auto-negotiation is enabled for any RJ-45 port on the NXA-ENET8POE, you can use either straight-through or crossover cable to connect to any device type.) You must connect all four wire pairs as shown in Straight-Through Wiring section on page 56 to support Gigabit Ethernet connections.
TIA 568-B will allow the use of 50/125 micron multimode optical fiber in both the horizontal and backbone in addition to the types listed above. All optical fiber components and installation practices must meet applicable building and safety codes. NXA-ENET8POE Gigabit PoE Ethernet Switch...
