Original Size Recognition
When the [Original Recognition] key is pressed, the Original Size Recognition
function is activated. This function enables the copier to automatically recognize
the size of an original and produce the copy on a suitable size of paper.
The Original Size Recognition function may not work for the following types of originals. In such
case, cancel the function before starting the copy job.
· Transparencies or highly transparent originals
· Originals with an extremely dark background
· Black three-dimensional objects
· Glossy originals
When copying an original that is held together by staples, separate the individual pages of the
original and copy them one at a time. If the original is placed as shown in the diagram below,
the copier cannot recognize the size of the original correctly.
The Original Size Recognition function is selected and the [Original Recognition] key indicator is
lit when the power is turned ON in the default state of the copier.
Press the [Original Recognition]
key.
The [Original Recognition] key indicator is lit.
Canceling the Original Recognition
Function
Press the [Original Recognition] key again.
If a paper size is specified by the manual paper selection
procedure, the [Original Recognition] key indicator goes off
to cancel the function.

If the Original Size Recognition
function is canceled, the Center
Shift function is also
automatically canceled.
When copies are made from an
original placed in the Feeder, the
original size is automatically
recognized if the Original Size
Recognition function is set to ON.
Thus, the Auto Paper Selection
and the Auto Zoom can be used
in this case.
If the Feeder is connected and
the original is set on the platen
glass then the Feeder is closed,
the size of an original cannot be
automatically recognized even
though the Original Size
Recognition function is set to ON.
Make copies with the Feeder
opened or specify the paper size
using the manual paper selection
procedure. For instructions on
the manual paper selection, see
"Manual Paper Selection," on
p. 2-26.
