Settings that Affect the IS3F/HTP Sensor Detection Features
The IS3F/HTP series sensors are not simply detecting the presence of the yarn, but they are working as true micro-
computers. They provide a digital signal output, which reflects the condition of the yarn within the detection area:
Normal yarn running condition on the sensor right or left side
Yarn stopped or broken condition
The functioning of the sensor is based on the principle of image variation (depending on the distance of the yarn
running from the left or the right side of the sensor), detected by two tiny "cameras", which are implemented inside the
sensor. Such a variation of image normally occurs only if the yarn is in actual movement inside the detection area, i.e.
only if the yarn is running.
Finally there are other factors that can affect the detection activity of the sensors, like the size and type of yarn (silk,
wool, acrylic, Lycra®, single filament nylon), as the variation of the image depends on these factors as well. That's why
the microcomputer embedded in the sensor, processes the images acquired by the "camera" by means of the sensor
memory, which takes into account also these other influencing factors.
The variables of this program are represented by the settings connected to the type of yarn used and to the specific
application:

Max Sensitivity (Max Sens)
The parameter Max Sens allows you to set the sensor sensitivity level. [allowable values 1 ...10]. Default value is 6.
The suggested values for different yarns are as hereafter indicated:
Analysis time (Switch Time)
The sensor detects alternately the yarn image to the left and to the right for the time set on this parameter, in order to
detect the yarn running side. [allowable values:50...500 ms, with steps of 50 ms].
Start threshold (Start count)
Upon each left or right reading, the sensor software calculates a value proportional to the yarn motion. If the calculated
value is higher than this parameter value, then the sensor detects a "moving yarn", otherwise it detects a "steady yarn".
High values increase the sensor immunity against vibrations or troubles. Too high values could hinder the correct
detection of the smaller yarns. [allowable values:1...100] [recommended values 10...25].
Detection threshold (Switch count)
Threshold for determining the yarn running side. Unwinding the yarn in "défiler" mode, the centrifugal force makes the
yarn moving inside the whole sensor reading area, apart from the origin side of the yarn. In order to determine the
origin side with absolute certainty, the sensor alternately analyzes the yarn running on both sides, assigning to each
reading a value proportional to the running intensity, according to a proprietary algorithm. High values of this
