DUT Setup Configurations

The 86038A's dual receivers allow extra measurement flexibility. The
number of inputs and outputs of the DUT are expressed in the form NxM,
where N is the number of inputs and M the number of outputs.
1 DUT with single input and single output, measured in transmission.
2 This setup configuration includes 1x1 devices or a single input/output pair of an
NxM device. Either receiver port may be used.
3 DUT with single input and single output, measured in transmission and
reflection.
4 Both receiver ports are used in this configuration. The optical output of the test
set is connected to a directional coupler or circulator. The 'reflected' port of the
coupler or circulator is connected to one of the receiver ports, and the output of
the DUT is connected to the other receiver port.
5 DUT with single input and dual outputs, measured in transmission.
6 This setup takes advantage of the dual receiver ports to simultaneously measure
two outputs of a NxM device.
7 Two 1x1 DUT's with inputs measured in transmission.
8 This setup is useful for comparing a pair of DUT's, or for situations that require
the operator to adjust one device to match the performance of a second device.
