Sample System

The FlarePro sample system consists of a heated inlet enclosure with a
sample selection valve manifold assembly.

Inlet Enclosure

The inlet apparatus is enclosed in a stainless steel housing mounted on the
top of the main mass spectrometer enclosure. The housing is insulated and
heated. Heating is provided by a finned heater and is controlled by a
temperature controller mounted in the main enclosure. The inlet enclosure
can be heated to a maximum of 150 °C.

Inlet Valves

Sample selection valves are provided in the inlet housing. These valves
are pneumatically operated diaphragm valves, manifold-mounted in
groups of eight. They are plumbed to allow gas from the selected valve to
flow past the mass spectrometer capillary inlet tubing and enter the mass
spectrometer. The pilot valves that provide compressed air to activate the
diaphragm valves are mounted in the main enclosure.

Attaching the Sample / Calibration Lines

The FlarePro is designed to accept one or more heated sample
bundles, depending on configuration. The valve manifold inside the
oven enclosure includes a 1/8"compression fitting to connect the
sample line. A 1/8" heated sample line, or a 1/4" heated sample line,
adapted down to 1/8", are recommended. Sample pressures of
between 0–10 PSIG are acceptable. For lower pressures, use of the
aspirator is recommended.
The (unheated) calibration lines are connected to the fittings on the
top of the Heated Sample Enclosure. These are 1/8" tube fittings.
Maximum pressure for the calibration gases is 10 PSIG (0.68 BARG).
These inlets accommodate non-heated calibration gases.

Roughing Pump Exhaust

Plumb exhaust with minimum 0.17" (4 mm) ID tubing to an appropriate
safe area. The exhaust contains oil vapors which are unhealthy to
breathe.
