SPECIAL CONDITIONS FOR SAFE USE
The FlarePro unit is designed to be used in Class 1 Division 2 Group A, B, C, D T3 hazardous
locations where explosive gases may be present. Protection against explosion is provided by the
"purge and pressurization" technique. The unit is equipped with pressurization devices that
make this technique automatic and reliable. However, there are three rules that must always be
followed:
1. Do not open the enclosure unless the area is known to be free of flammable
materials, or unless all devices within have been de-energized for at least 30
minutes.
2. Do not restore power, once the enclosure has been opened, until the enclosure has
been purged for at least 30 minutes at a minimum flow of 3.2 SCFM (90 l/m).
3. Perform purge system maintenance as prescribed in Chapter 4 of the user manual.
NITROGEN AS THE PROTECTIVE GAS
vi | FlarePro Process Mass Spectrometer
When using nitrogen as the protective gas, the purge system outlet and
over-pressure vent must be properly vented to avoid the risk of
asphyxiation. The gas supply must be adjusted as needed during
maintenance to avoid suffocation.
