Assembly and preparation
CAUTION
To ensure electrical safety, only connect devices
to the serial interfaces (COM 1 and COM 2), or
devices and networks to the network interface
(Ethernet connection), with a maximum rated
voltage of 24 Vdc that meet one of the following
standards:
– IEC 60950-1: Ungrounded SELV circuits
– IEC 60601-1 (as of 2nd edition): Touchable
secondary circuits

Establishing potential equalization

Differences in electrical potential between devices
can be reduced by potential equalization.
Potential equalization does not replace the
protective ground connection.
During operation, the potential equalization
connectors must be readily accessible and the
connection must be able to be disconnected
without the use of tools.
Connecting the potential equalization cable
1 Connect the potential equalization cable to the
potential equalization pin on the device.
2 Connect the potential equalization cable to a
potential equalization connector of the hospital
(e.g., wall, ceiling supply unit, operating table).

Using the MEDIBUS protocol

MEDIBUS is a software protocol for data transfer
between Perseus and an external medical or non-
medical device (e.g., hemodynamic monitors, data
management systems, or computers) via an
RS 232 interface.
Before transferring data, strictly observe the
following:
– MEDIBUS.X, Rules and Standards for
Implementation (9052607)
– MEDIBUS.X, Profile Definition for Data
Communication V1.n (9052608)
WARNING
Risk of patient injury
All data transferred over the MEDIBUS
interface are for information only and must
not be used as the sole basis for diagnostic
or therapeutic decisions. Data accessible
through this interface are not suitable for a
decentralized alarm system in accordance
with IEC 60601-1-8:2012 (in the sense of
remote monitoring).
1 Connect the external device to the COM 1 or
COM 2 port, see page 23. Use MEDIBUS
cables as stipulated in the list of accessories.
2 Configure the corresponding COM interface,
see page 142.
WARNING
Risk of electric shock
Connecting devices to the MEDIBUS
interfaces can lead to an increased leakage
current. If the protective ground of one of
these devices fails, the leakage current may
rise above the permissible values. Only
connect with the approval of the respective
device manufacturer. Have the leakage
current checked by service personnel.
If the permissible value is exceeded,
disconnect the devices from the MEDIBUS
interface.
