The entire process of defining the safety system is carried out in the planning phase. In
addition to risk assessment, the planning contains the detailed definition of all system
components, the definition of the system parameters and the detailed installation and
wiring of the components.
DANGER!
Conducting the planning thoroughly aids in avoiding failures. Failures in safety-
oriented machines can lead to permanent injuries and death.
CAUTION!
The „Planning checklist" reproduced in the appendix is to be used in the planning
phase.

11.1 Risk assessment

The risk assessment establishes which dangers a machine can present and which plant
parts will have to be equipped with safety technology devices. The residual risk is reduced
to a justifiable level by means of safety technology measures.
CAUTION!
As machine manufacturer, the applicable machine guidelines obligate you to conduct
a risk assessment in order to establish the dangers associated with the machine and
reduce the residual risk to a justifiable minimum.
