Planning the layout

Overview
Layout, planning
2-2
This section lists the important points for planning.
The first thing to do when planning the layout is to draw up a site plan:
Table 2-1 Planning the layout
Step
1
Distribute the inputs and outputs to the locations where
they are required.
2
Assign the inputs and outputs to the appropriate DP
slaves.
3
Select the programmable controller(s) suitable for your
intended purpose.
4
Determine where the DP slaves and programmable
controller(s) are to be sited.
5
If you are using IM 308-C master interface(s), decide
which slot(s) will accommodate the IM 308-C(s).
6
Calculate the distances between the sites. These figures
will determine:
the maximum possible baud rate
whether or not you require RS 485 repeaters (bus
amplifiers)
whether you require fiber–optic waveguides
