PLUG-IN INTERFACE CARD (PIIC)

11.1 Introduction

The G.703 E3/T3/STS-1 Plug-In Interface Card (PIIC) (Figure 11-1) is a module that plugs into
either or both of the Interface Option slots located on the rear panel of the CDM-750 Advanced
High-Speed Satellite Modem chassis. It provides physical and electrical connection between the
external terrestrial device and the internal circuitry of the modulator or demodulator.
By convention, a modem is Data Communications Equipment (DCE) where Tx data enters the
data interface and Rx data exits. While the G.703 E3/T3/STS-1 PIIC is usually ordered with the
modem, it is an option that is easily field-installed (see Sect. 11.4 for details.). Currently, only
one PIIC interface can be active at a time.
