4.3.2 Developing system

• Two types of developing systems are used, a non-contact developing system and an alternating current application system.
1. A negative charge (supply bias voltage Vr) is applied the supply roller to regulate the amount of toner sticking to the developing roller.
2. A negative charge (blade bias voltage Vb1) is applied to the regulator blade/1st to negatively charge the toner and form a thin layer of toner.
3. Toner on the surface of the developing roller is evened out by the regulator blade/2nd.
4. During development, DC + AC developing bias voltage (Vb) is applied to developing roller. The AC component of the developing bias
voltage is applied only during development. At any time other than the development, only the DC component of the developing bias voltage
is applied.
5. The developing roller causes the toner to stick to the photo conductor when the AC component of the developing bias voltage is negative.
The voltage and time length of the negative component determine the image density.
6. A negative charge (charge neutralizing bias voltage: same potential as the developing bias) is applied to the charge neutralizing sheet to
neutralize any toner left on the surface of the developing roller. The neutralized toner is returned to the supply roller.

(1) Cleaning operation
