Creating and Managing iSCSI LUNs Using VDS
1. Create the volume and RAID set for the iSCSI disk on the SnapServer using the
Web Management Interface ( Storage > Volumes ).
The volume and RAID set must be created on the SnapServer before the iSCSI disk
can be created using a VDS application such as Microsoft's Storage Manager for
SANs.
2. Add VDS clients to the SnapServer.
a. From the Storage > iSCSI page, click the VSS/VDS Access button.
b. Click Add.
c. Add the hostname of the VDS client you wish to grant access and click Add (the

3. Install the VDS hardware provider on the Windows client.
a. Depending on the Windows client, locate SnapServerToolInstall32.exe or

NOTE: RAID set terminology differs somewhat between GuardianOS and Storage Manager for
RAID set types listed in Storage Manager for SANs when creating an iSCSI disk
reflect the types of RAID sets already configured on the SnapServer. Once a RAID set
type is selected, the SnapServer automatically chooses a SnapServer RAID set of the
selected type and volume to create the iSCSI disk on.

NOTE: Use the short hostname (myclientname) of the client only. Do not use the IP
address or fully-qualified name (for example, myclientname.mydomain.com).
