Table 44. Troubleshoot IP Phone Registration

Probable Causes
DHCP Option 132
and/or 133 not set
correctly.
Existing data device
owns the IP address.
Corrective Action
1.
Identify the location of
DHCP and which DHCP
server is assigned IP
address for the
corresponding subnet
(see Appendix A on page
215 for examples>.
2.
For an external
Microsoft DHCP (NT
server, etc.), make sure
that the option type is set
to LONG.
Note: For Windows
2000, refer to TSB
#58001604.
3.
For a Cisco Router
DHCP, make sure that
the option type is set to
hex, and padded with 0s
(for example, 0x000002
for VLAN 2).
4.
For the Controller
internal DHCP, set the
option type to numeric.
1.
Check the IP address
on the phone display.
2.
Disconnect the IP
Phone.
3.
From a PC on the
same subnet, ping the
suspected IP Phone to
see if there is a response.
If there is, identify the
data device, and resolve
the conflict.
