If there are two or more destinations in the Broadcast Domain, the
VSP must replicate the Frame once for each remote destination. This
is said to be a "Replicating" VSP.
The "Replicating" option is specified when you create the VSP and
cannot be changed without deleting the VSP and recreating it.
An ATM Link is a group PVCs that all connect to the same
destination. In the simple case of a Non-LoadSharing configuration,
you define one ATM Link per remote destination.
PVCs for an ATM Link should all be configured on the same physical
port. While you are permitted to configure PVCs on different
physical ports, it is not recommended because it can lead to
misconfigurations.
If LoadSharing is enabled, you define two ATM Links per each
destination. Each pair of Links will have PVCs on either physical
port. For example, if you were connecting a site in Boston to a site
in Tampa through the ATM cloud, you would configure
Link1_BostonToTamp with PVCs on physical port 1 and
Link2_BostonToTamp with PVCs on physical port2. Each link would
have the other link as the FailOver link on the ATM Link
configuration screen.
Within each ATM Link, you define the PVCs with their parameters
and assign Ethernet priorities to those PVCs.
The ATM Uplink module supports F5 (Virtual Circuit)
Administration, and Maintenance (
once per second down the default PVC in an ATM Link. These cells
are used to check the integrity of a circuit (end-to-end). The device
at the other end of the circuit should loop back these cells. Should
an OAM cell not return, the ATM Uplink module detects a circuit
failure and will fail over to the configured FailOver Link.
OAM support is valid only on RFC1483 LLC and Simple Bridged
VSPs (not LAN Emulation Clients (LECs) or RFC1483 Routed VSPs).
FailOver allows you to configure two ATM Links that connect to the
same destination; and, in the event the first link fails, the second
(FailOver) link will forward the traffic. In this configuration, only
one link is forwarding traffic. This may be desirable if you have two
service providers and want to direct all traffic to the preferred
provider.
