RED PACK DEFAULTS

Avaya P550R/P580/P880/P882 Multiservice Switch ATM Uplink Module User Guide, Version 2.0
Thresholds are measured in ATM cells, so the frame sizes of the
offered load will have an impact on parameter setting. The default
values on the ATM Uplink Module are outlined in Table 1.

Our data shows:
RED PACK 1 will absorb a burst of 75 frames of 64 bytes each
on a 100Mbps ethernet link directed to a CBR VC with a PCR
of 10,000 (approximately 3.7 Mbps). RED PACK 1 is usually
used for small frame flows, such as IP telephony traffic.
RED PACK 2 will absorb a burst of 44 frames of 500 bytes
each on a 100Mbps ethernet link directed to a CBR VC with a
PCR of 10,000 (approximately 3.7 Mbps). RED PACK 2 is
typically used for mixed traffic, which is made up of regular
data flows.
RED PACK 3 will absorb a burst of 18 frames of 1500 bytes
each on a 100Mbps ethernet link directed to a CBR VC with a
PCR of 10,000 (approximately 3.7 Mbps). RED PACK 3 is
used for large frame flows, such as streaming video or file
transfers.
RED PACK 4 will absorb a burst of 38 frames of 1500 bytes
each on a 100Mbps ethernet link directed to a CBR VC with a
PCR of 10,000 (approximately 3.7 Mbps). RED PACK 4
provides maximum buffering for any type of flow.
* Note: Heavily damped large frame parameters allow for
maximum queue depth and burst tolerance, but with
many flows it may still be possible to exhaust packet
memory.
