CHAPTER 2 PRIMEPOWER650 Rack-mount Type (8U) Server
2.5.2

4CPU mode

• Overview
Up to eight CPUs can be installed on the system board of the PRIMEPOWER650.
Addresses and data are divided into two parts (each part uses four CPUs) and are
controlled separately. Therefore, if the system contains four or fewer CPUs and the
memory module installation pattern has a 1-way configuration, only one part of the
system is operating. This single-part operation mode is called the "4CPU mode". In
4CPU mode, eliminating unnecessary data transfer can reduce the memory latency,
yielding increased performance.
• Hardware conditions
To set up the 4CPU mode, the following hardware conditions must be satisfied:
l CPU
Only four CPUs (CPU#0, CPU#1, CPU#2, and CPU#3) are installed.
l Memory modules
Only DIMMR0, DIMMR1, DIMMR2, and DIMMR3 are installed.
l Miscellaneous
PCIBOX is not connected.
• Notes
l The option used to set 4CPU mode must be ordered in advance. After the order is
received, the mounting locations of memory modules are determined, and the
settings of 4CPU mode are defined before shipment from the factory.
l If the required hardware conditions are not satisfied, the system starts in normal
mode.
l The interleave mode is unavailable.
l The system startup time is slightly longer in the 4CPU mode.
