CHAPTER 7 Troubleshooting

1
This chapter provides an overview of the techniques used to troubleshoot the
PRIMEPOWER850/650.
7.1

Overview

The troubleshooting techniques used depend on the conditions under which the units
were operating at the time of failure. PRIMEPOWER provides the following
troubleshooting aids:
l The status display LCD panel indicates any hardware errors detected during the
Power-On Self Test (POST) diagnostics and any hardware errors detected by the
SCF during system operation.
l The results of the POST diagnostics are displayed while the ok prompt is
displayed.
l If a system error is detected when the operating system is running, an error
message is displayed on the console and saved in the /var/adm/messages file. The
hardware diagnostic programs, which are contained in the "Enhanced Support
Facility", can also be used to diagnose the PRIMEPOWER I/O units.
This chapter provides troubleshooting hints for isolating hardware problems.
4Users should not attempt to repair this unit. Call your certified service engineer if
repairs are needed.
Certain actions require that the service engineer log in as a Solaris Operating
Environment system administrator. If the service engineer requests such an
access, please facilitate it.
