When you are using D
digital outputs as the "Dialnorm reference output." In this step, you have
made digital output 1 the Dialnorm reference output.
When a given output is the Dialnorm reference output, adjusting its as-
sociated level control does not change output loudness. Instead, it sets
the maximum peak level appearing at this output with respect to 0 dBFS,
which allows you to compensate for transmission channels that introduce
peak overshoots. For example, if you lower an O
0 dBFS to –2 dBFS, the 6300 automatically reduces the gain following its
look-ahead peak limiter by 2 dB and simultaneously increases the drive
into the peak limiter by 2 dB. Hence, the average output level does not
change but the maximum peak output level is constrained to –2 dBFS.
This unconventional arrangement results from the 6300's handling of

change the 6300 output level control freely without causing your on-air
loudness to be incorrect with respect to other Dolby Digital transmis-
sions.
The "neutral" setting of the D
matches the loudness of 6300 version 1.x processing) is –19 dB.

The largest valid word length in the 6300 is 24 bits, which is the recom-
mended setting for driving a Dolby Digital encoder.
The 6300 can also truncate its output word length to 20, 18, 16 or 14 bits.
