Adding Duplex
Unit

The optional duplex unit allows the printer to print data both sides
of a sheet of paper. When purchasing a duplex unit, a 250-sheet
paper feeder (without paper tray) comes with it. The duplex unit is
labeled with "DUPLEX".
The duplex unit has the same external dimensions as the standard
paper tray. It is installed in the place where the standard paper tray is
installed. So, you must remove the standard paper tray, install the
supplied paper feeder, and then install the removed standard paper
tray in the paper feeder. To install the paper feeder, see "Second to
Fourth Paper Feeders" in this chapter.
Important:
• The duplex unit cannot be recognized by the printer if it is installed
in the printer after power is turned on. (If you replace the standard
paper tray with the duplex unit while power is on, the duplex unit
is not recognized as a duplex unit.)
• In the same way, if you replace the duplex unit with a paper tray
while power is on, the paper tray is not recognized as a paper tray.
To install the duplex unit, follow these steps:

1. Make sure that the printer
power is off. Check that the
printer power is off (the
power switch is pressed on
the "O" side).
2. Remove the standard paper
tray from the printer.
3. Install the duplex unit.
Slide in the duplex unit
along the guide grooves on
both sides of the bay where
the standard paper tray was
installed and push it in until
it is locked.
4. Turn the printer power on.
