GadgetGateway Serial Interface
Enter the addressing mode and press ENTER. The the new addressing mode value will
appear in the menu. Multicast mode can reduce the IP traffic relative to Unicast when there
are a large number of 852 devices in the channel. Up to 255 devices per domain are sup-
ported with multi-cast. We recommend using multi-cast on a LAN. We also recommend
using multi-cast on a WAN if the IP routers support it. Some older IP routers do not sup-
port Multi-cast and therefore you will not be able to route 852 packets across a Unicast
only router with multicast addressing.
If the mode is changed to Multicast the Channel Detail Menu will be re-displayed with an
additional option [S] to set the multi-cast address.

4.7.28 Set Multicast Address

Select [S] from the menu and press ENTER.
Enter the Multicast Address:
Type in the multicast IP address in dot notation such as, x.x.x.x and press enter. The new
multicast address will be displayed. Multicast addresses are in the range 224.0.0.0 to
239.255.255.255. Addresses ending in ".0 " are reserved. Some addresses ending in ".1"
are used for multicast host broadcasts and should also be avoided. Examples of valid mul-
ticast addresses include: 225.0.0.2, 225.0.0.3, 225.1.2.3. You may need to check with your
network administrator to see what multi-cast addresses are available for your use.
