3.6 Using GadgetGateway with Lon-
Maker over IP
i.LON Configuration Server (See Section 3.4, "Configuring with the i.LON 1000 TM
Configuration Server" ).
1. Using the serial connection, set up an IP address, subnet mask, and Gateway address
for the GadgetGateway (See Section 4.2, "GadgetGateway IP Configuration" ). Using
a PC, ping the Gateway to ensure that it is communicating on the IP network.
Note: Consult the network administrator to procure the IP address, subnet mask, and
Gateway address, if not already known.
2. Set the GadgetGateway to Normal mode. This can be done through either the 709.1/IP
Gateway Main Menu in the Serial Menu (Section 4.4), or through the Router Setup
page on the Web Interface (Section 5.4).
3. Set the Configuration Server address to the address of the computer that is running the
i.LON Configuration Tool. This can be done through either the Serial Interface or the
Web Interface (Section 4.4.12 or Section 5.4).
Note: In versions prior to 2.2 of the GadgetGateway firmware the i.LON Configuration
Server and LonMaker for Windows could not share the same IP address. In order to run on
the same PC with these older firmware versions, assign the i.LON Configuration Server a
different IP address than that used by LonMaker. To do this in Windows 2000 or later, go
to the Network & Dialup Connections window under Start->Settings. Right click on the
Local Area Connection item. Select the properties submenu. Select the Internet Protocol
(TCP/IP) properties. Make sure "Use the following address" radio button is selected.
Select the advanced button. Select the add IP address button. Enter the appropriate infor-
mation. Apply the changes and exit. Now go to the i.LON Configuration server properties
dialog and select the new IP address.
4. Add both the GadgetGateway and the PC that is running the LonMaker software to the
i.LON Configuration Tool. Both devices should be added to the same channel. When
the devices have been added to the Configuration Tool, right-click the Channel icon
and select the "Commission Members" option. After a few seconds, both the Lon-
Maker PC and the GadgetGateway devices will turn green.
Note: For the connection to work and the LonMaker device to turn green in the i.LON
Configuration Server, LonMaker must be running with an open network whose network
interface is set to an IP channel. See LonMaker documentation for information on how to
set up an IP channel on the computer that is running LonMaker.
5. Verify that the GadgetGateway is configured correctly by checking the Channel List on
the Gateway. This can be done through either the Serial Interface or the Web Interface
(Section 4.6 or Section 5.6). If configured correctly, the Gateway will have two entries
in its Channel List: itself and the LonMaker device.
