Enter the desired name of the GadgetGateway and press ENTER. The new router name
will appear in the menu. If you press ENTER without typing in anything the previous
value is retained.
Note: If the device is in Normal mode, the assigned configuration server may later change
some of the values displayed in the above menu, including the name.

4.4.6 Set 709.1 Router Type

Select [L] from the menu and press ENTER.
>>> l
Enter 709.1 Router Type:
1 = Configured
2 = Repeater
3 = Flood
Make your selection and press ENTER. The new router type will appear in the menu.
Configured: Selecting this router type will cause the GadgetGateway to filter ANSI/EIA
709.1 traffic passed to the IP network. The filter rules are based on router tables set on the
GadgetGateway by a ANSI/EIA 709.1 management tool or by the serial console
Repeater: Selecting this router type causes all local ANSI/EIA 709.1 traffic to the Gadget-
Gateway to pass to the IP network. Repeater mode will drop packets that fail their CRC
checks or packets that do not belong to one of the router's domains. Network management
packets addressed to the Gateway are not passed but are handled by the Gateway.
Flood: Selecting this router type cause all local ANSI/EIA 709.1 traffic to the Gadget-
Gateway to pass to the IP network (except those that fail CRC) this includes network man-
agement packets. No other filtering is done. In Flood mode the GadgetGateway is
completely transparent to the 709.1 channel. This enables tunneling over IP of some 709.1
networks with odd configurations. Flood type can only be configured in manual mode.
Any 709.1 networks connected to GadgetGateways in Flood Mode become one large vir-
tual subnet. In contrast with Configured and Repeater modes, Flood mode changes the
gateways into what is essentially a physical layer repeater with two major exceptions:
1) Packets with CRC errors are discarded.
2) Unlike a good physical layer repeater, the gateway can be saturated.
Note: When in Flood Mode, 709.1 network management tools will not be able to commu-
nicate with the GadgetGateway. The GadgetGateway is completely transparent to all
709.1 devices.

4.4.7 Set Node Type
