Communication

This chapter describes the communication features of the Powerware 9390
20–80 kVA UPS and provides information about connecting hardware and using
Terminal mode.
The Powerware 9390 UPS has two standard, factory‐installed X-Slot communication
bays with two slots each. See Drawing 164201603-8 starting on page A-42 for bay
locations. The UPS is compatible with the following X-Slot cards (see Figure 12‐1):
S
Power Xpert
Gateway Card - provides a data gateway from the UPS to the Power
®
Xpert Software; provides remote monitoring through a Web browser interface,
e-mail, and a network managment system using SNMP; connects to a twisted-pair
Ethernet (10/100BaseT) network. Modbus TCP support provides direct integration
of the UPS's parameters to a Building Management System (BMS). It has a built-in
switching hub that allows a second network device to be connected to the
network without the requirement of an additional network drop.
S
ConnectUPS-X Web/SNMP Card - has SNMP and HTTP capabilities as well as
monitoring through a Web browser interface; connects to a twisted-pair Ethernet
(10/100BaseT) network. It has a built-in switching hub that allows three additional
network devices to be connected to the network without the requirement of
additional network drops. In addition, a Powerware Environmental Monitoring
Probe (EMP) can be attached to obtain humidity, temperature, smoke alarm, and
security information.
S
Relay Interface Card (AS/400) - has isolated dry contact (Form-C) relay outputs for
UPS status: Utility failure, Low battery, UPS alarm/OK, or On bypass when
interfacing with IBM
industrial applications.
S
Modbus Card - provides direct integration of UPS information (meters and status) to
a BMS using the Modbus RTU protocol.
S
Multi-Server Card - has six serial communication ports that can communicate
simultaneously with other computers using Powerware LanSafe
Management Software (provided on the Software Suite CD).
NOTE The Modem Card cannot be installed in X-Slot 2.
S
Modem Card - provides out-of-band remote notification and monitoring using
modem communication directly to cell phones and pagers.
S
Single-Port Card - provides serial communication.
LAN and telephone drops for use with X-Slot cards must be provided by facility
planners or the customer.
For installation and setup of an X-Slot card, please contact Eaton (see page 1-7). Refer
to the manual supplied with the X-Slot card for user instructions.
