Removing the front-panel assembly

To remove the front-panel assembly, complete the following steps:
1. Read the safety information that begins on page "Important Safety Information" on page 1.
2. Turn off the server and all attached devices; then, disconnect all power cords and external cables.
3. Unlock and remove the side cover (see "Removing the side cover" on page 142).
4. Remove the lower bezel, and then remove the upper bezel (see "Removing the two-piece bezel" on
page 144).
5. Slide the drives in bay 1 and bay 2 forward slightly (see "Removing a DVD drive" on page 153 for more
information). It is not necessary to remove these drives.
6. If the server has hot-swap power supplies, remove the power supplies and the power supply cage (see
"Replacing the hot-swap power supply cage" on page 187).
7. Disconnect the front-panel assembly cable from the system board, and note the routing of the cable (see
"System-board internal connectors" on page 131 for the location of the front-panel connector).
8. Press up on the release tab of the front-panel assembly
server; then, remove the front-panel assembly from the chassis.
9. If you are instructed to return the front-panel assembly, follow all packaging instructions, and use any
packaging materials for shipping that are supplied to you.

Installing the front-panel assembly

To install the front-panel assembly, complete the following steps:
1. Position the front end of the front-panel assembly in the channel above drive bay 1 on the left side of
the chassis.
2. Push the front-panel assembly
3. Reroute and connect the front-panel assembly cable to the system board (see "System-board internal
connectors" on page 131 for the location of the front-panel connector).
