5. Check the hard disk drive status indicator to make sure that the hard disk drive is operating correctly.
(You might have to restart the server for the drive to be recognized.) If the amber hard disk drive status
LED for a drive is lit continuously, it indicates that the drive is faulty and must be replaced. If the green
hard disk drive activity LED is flashing, this indicates that the drive is being accessed.
Note: If the server is configured for RAID operation using a ™ServeRAID controller, you might have to
reconfigure the disk arrays after you replace hard disk drives. See the ™ServeRAID documentation
for additional information about RAID operation.
6. Go to "Completing the FRU replacement" on page 200.

Removing a simple-swap hard disk drive

This procedure applies only to server models that have simple-swap SATA hard disk drives.
Attention: Simple-swap hard disk drives are not hot-swappable. Disconnect all power from the server
before you remove or install a simple-swap hard disk drive.
To remove a simple-swap hard disk drive, complete the following steps:
1. Read the safety information that begins on page "Important Safety Information" on page 1.
2. Turn off the server and all attached devices; then, disconnect all power cords and external cables.
3. Remove the lower bezel (see "Removing the two-piece bezel" on page 144).
4. Pull the loops of the drive assembly that is to be removed toward each other; then, pull the assembly out
of the bay.
5. If you are instructed to return the drive assembly, follow all packaging instructions, and use any
packaging materials for shipping that are supplied to you.

Installing a simple-swap hard disk drive

This procedure applies only to server models that have simple-swap SATA hard disk drives.
