To begin, you must connect your Matrox Iris E-Series to a computer/network and
power source.
The back panel of Matrox Iris E-Series has the following interfaces:
• 10/100 Base T. Matrox Iris E-Series uses a standard 10/100 BaseT ethernet
interface to provide connectivity between your Matrox Iris E-Series and your
computer or your network. Connect this interface to either your computer's
network board or your LAN's ethernet jack with the appropriate type of cable.
Matrox Iris E-Series can gain access to a LAN via Fast ethernet (100BaseT) or
Twisted Pair ethernet (10BaseT). If you plan to use Fast ethernet, use an
Unshielded Twisted Pair Category 5 (UTP5) cable. If you will be using Twisted
Pair ethernet, use a UTP5 or UTP3 cable. An RJ45 connector must be attached
to each end of the cable.
When connecting your Matrox Iris E-Series to a switch, router, or hub, use a
straight-through cable. When connecting your Matrox Iris E-Series to another
computer, use a cross-over cable. For instructions in creating a cross-over cable,
refer to Appendix D: Cross-over cabling.
