• Power and RS-232. Matrox Iris E-Series integrates a standard RS-232 interface
and power supply interface in one connector (PWR/RS232). If you have
purchased the Matrox Iris E-Series power supply and cable kit, a specialized cable
is included to connect with this connector. If you have not purchased this kit, you
should purchase a power and RS-232 cable.
When purchasing a power supply from a supplier other than Matrox (that is, not
as part of the Matrox Iris E-Series power supply and cable kit), the recommended
type of power supply is the Sino-American Electronic SA115B-24U. Contact your
Matrox sales representative for details.
Connect the RJ-45 end of the cable to the power and RS-232 connector on your
Matrox Iris E-Series. Connect the power supply end of the cable to a
surge-protected outlet. Connect the DB-9 connector end of the cable to your
computer's serial port for direct serial communication with your Matrox Iris
E-Series.
To view serial communication messages, use Microsoft HyperTerminal, or some
other serial client, on your computer. Note that your serial client program must
be running when your Matrox Iris E-Series powers up to see the majority of the
messages generated.
• I/O signals. The input and output connector is a DB-25 connector which provides
serial communication and digital I/O capabilities between Matrox Iris E-Series
and an external device. Connect the DB-25 connector to the external device using
a custom cable. For information regarding connecting external devices to the
DB-25 connector, refer to the Appendix G: Using the I/O signals of Matrox Iris
E-Series.
