Seat Belt Care

Warning
Care should be taken to avoid
contamination of the webbing with
polishes, oils and chemicals, and
particularly battery acid. Cleaning
may safely be carried out using
mild soap and water. The belt
should be replaced if webbing
becomes frayed, contaminated or
damaged.

It is essential to replace the entire
assembly after it has been worn
in a severe impact even if
damage to the assembly is not
obvious.

Airbag System

Airbags and child restraints
Warning
WARNING
EXTREME
HAZARD!
Do not use a rearward facing
child restraint on a seat protected
by an airbag in front of it.

The child could be seriously
injured if the airbag inflates, as
the child's head would be very
close to the inflating airbag.
Remember that it is safest for
children to be seated in the rear
seats. See Child Restraint
Systems on page 3-19.
Airbags are part of the
supplemental restraint system
(SRS) as they assist, but do not
replace seat belts. Airbags do not
deploy in every accident. Various
factors dictate whether they
deploy including speed, angle of
collision and object hit. Airbags
are not designed to inflate if the
