Driving and Operating
See Starting the Engine on
page 9-6 for more information. The
ignition will then remain in ON/RUN.
Service Only Mode
This power mode is available for
service and diagnostics, and to
verify the proper operation of the
malfunction indicator lamp as may
be required for emission inspection
purposes. With the vehicle off, and
the brake pedal not applied,
pressing and holding the button for
more than five seconds will place
the vehicle in Service Only Mode.
The instruments and audio systems
will operate as they do in ON/RUN,
but the vehicle will not be able to be
driven. The engine will not start in
Service Only Mode. Push the button
again to turn the vehicle off.

Starting the Engine

1. Apply the park brake. Release it
only after starting the engine and
you are ready to drive off.
2. Move the shift lever to position P
or N. The engine will not start if
the shift lever is in any other
position.
3. When the ignition is off and the
brake pedal is applied, press the
ENGINE START/STOP button
once and release when engine
cranking begins. Engine
cranking will continue until the
engine starts.
Do not press the accelerator
pedal while starting the engine.
Do not subject the engine to full
throttle acceleration or high
speeds until it has reached
normal operating temperature.
Premature engine wear or
damage may result.

Retained Accessory

Power (RAP)

The power windows will operate
when the key is in the ON or
ACCESSORIES positions.
Once the ignition is turned off, the
RAP allows the power windows to
continue to operate for up to
10 minutes. If a door is opened
during this time, they will be
deactivated.
The audio system will be
deactivated only if the driver's door
is opened.

Parking

1. Apply the park brake.
2. Select position P.
3. Shut all windows.
4. Turn the ignition off and remove
the key.
5. Press the
button on the key to
lock all doors and to arm the
alarm system. See Vehicle
Alarm System on page 2-13.
The engine fan may keep
going for several minutes after the
ignition has been turned off. This is
normal.
