    Chapter 1 DASH GAUGES Temperature gauge The temperature gauge indicates the engine coolant temperature when the ignition is switched Stop/start driving in heavy traffic, driving at high speed in warm weather, hill climbing or towing may cause the needle to move toward the "H". This is normal, and is not cause for concern.

    Chapter 1 DASH WARNING LIGHTS cont. Park brake and brake fail! <CD> To check that the light is working, the symbol is displayed when the ignition is first turned ON and the park brake applied. If the symbol illuminates while driving and the park brake is released, a fault with the brakes is indicated.
  • Page 18 To check that the warning light is working, the symbol is displayed for a short time when the ignition is first turned ON. If the symbol illuminates while driving you should see your Holden Dealer immediately, as the air bags and seat belt pre-tensioners may not function correctly, especially in an accident.
  • Page 19 If the TRAG OFF light illuminates while driving, it indicates the traction control system is not working and you should see your Holden Dealer. If the LOW TRAG light flashes while driving, it indicates that the traction control system has sensed that your car requires help with road grip and that the system is actively working to stop any slipping.

These figures are pre-set for the standard car and do not have to be adjusted. However, each car does vary due to tyre size, tolerances etc. and, therefore, the facility is provided to adjust each figure for greater accuracy.

  • Page 27 Chapter 1 1-17 DASH WIPERS and WASHERS The lever on the left of the steering wheel column controls the wipers and washers, which operate when the ignition is turned to either ON or ACCESSORIES. Wipers and washers Never operate the wipers on dry glass, as this will damage the rubber and scratch the glass.
  • Page 28 Chapter 1 1-18 DASH LIGHTS All lights off Park lights Turns on the park, tail, rear l i c e n c e a n d instrument panel lights. Dimmer - instrument lighting The instruments are automatically illuminated when the park lights are switched on.

    Chapter 1 1-20 DASH LIGHTS cont. Fog lights (if fiHed) Push the switch to turn the fog lights off or on when the light switch is turned to parkers or headlights. The light in the instrument panel glows when the fog lights are working. Fog lights are designed to provide a different illumination of the road to the usual headlight beam.
  • Page 31 Chapter 1 1-21 DASH TURN SIGNALS, HORN, TILT STEERING Turn signals The turn signals lever is on the right side of the steering wheel column. Push the lever up to signal a left turn, down to signal a right turn. In some turns (such as changing lanes) the steering wheel is not turned far enough to cancel the turn signal.

Under reasonable conditions, it shouldn't be necessary to open the windows at any time. Outside air (except when re-circulate is selected) is drawn into the car through the opening between the bonnet and the windscreen.

Ignition keys Cars fitted with 1priority key locking! systems (refer chapter 2 11LockS11) have the ability to remember individual adjustments for different keys. When the key is inserted in the ignition and turned to ON the system identifies the key and sets the climate control to the last adjustments used for that key.

    Chapter 1-34 DASH CRUISE CONTROL The cruise control maintains your car's speed without you havin g your foot on the accelerator pedal. The cruise control lever is on the ri g ht side of the steerin g column. The ON-OFF/CANCEL switch is at the end of the lever and is activated by pushin g in towards the direction of the steerin g column.

  • Page 50 Chapter 2 LOCKS PERSONAL IDENTITY KEYS This system provides two different memories of electronic settings, for different keys. For-instance, one driver may have a preferred radio station. Pressing the "UNLOCK" button on their key will automatically customise the radio for that driver. The other driver however, may prefer a different station.

  • Page 53 The key buttons won't work if the battery inside the key is flat. Try turning the key in the ignition to ON, then OFF again and remove. Try pressing "LOCK" on the key again. If it still does not work a replacement key may be needed from your Holden Dea!er.

  • Page 55 Chapter 2 LOCKS ALARM Switching on and off The alarm system is turned on when the "LOCK" button on the key is pressed, and turned off when "UNLOCK" is pressed. Therefore, locking the doors by pressing "LOCK'' not only locks all the doors but (after a short delay) also sets the alarm system.

  • Page 62 Chapter 3 KNOW YOUR CAR FRONT SEAT The front switch is used to electrically adjust the height, the tilt and the movement of the seat forwards and backwards. The rear switch is used to electrically adjust the angle of the back of the seat. Adjustment to lumbar support and head restraints are made manually.

  • Page 64 Chapter 3 KNOW YOUR CAR REAR SEAT The middle section of the rear seat may be folded forwards to gain access to the boot area or for carrying long, awkward loads. To fold the middle section forward, push down the lock button at the top of the middle section.
  • Page 65 Chapter KNOW YOUR CAR SEAT BELTS Lap/sash belts To fasten, pull the metal tongue across your body and clip into the buckle. When the metal tongue is locked safely into place you will hear a "click". After fastening, settle the belt at the hip, go across to the buckle, then up under the sash.

  • Page 76 Chapter 3 3 16 KNOW YOUR CAR CUP HOLDERS Front cup holders Cup holders are provided between the front seats. Push the lid to open. Don't forget cups when you drive off. The cup holders are designed for holding standard size soft drink cans and smaller size bottles.

  • Page 81 Chapter 4 DRIVING SAFETY Before entering the car Check that windows, mirrors and lights are clean. Visually check tyre inflation (check with a pressure gauge each week). Before driving off Be sure that all doors are closed and secured. Position your seat for comfortable driving. Adjust rear vision mirrors.
  • Page 82 Chapter DRIVING ENGINE STARTING Ensure the park brake is firmly applied and release it only after you have started the engine and are ready to drive off. Move the shift lever to P(park) or N(neutral) position. The engine will not start if it is in any other position.

  • Page 84 Chapter 4 DRIV I N G AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION cont. P (park) This prevents the rear wheels from turning and so should be selected (together with the park brake) when leaving the car. Never select P until your car is fully stopped. The engine can be started in this position. R (reverse) Never select R until your car is fully stopped.
  • Page 85 If the TRAC OFF warning light does not light up when the button is pressed, or if it comes on during driving, a fault is indicated in the system and traction control is no longer operational. You should contact your Holden Dealer. In certain circumstances where slippage of the driving wheels is desired, it may be helpful to disable the traction control system.

It prevents the wheels from locking up when braking, irrespective of the road conditions and tyre grip. It starts to regulate the braking as soon as a wheel shows a tendency to lock.

Mobile phones and CB radios Mobile phones and CB radio equipment, which use an integrated antenna, may temporarily affect the car's electronics (permanent damage is unlikely) when used inside the car, due to the interference created when transmitting. Therefore, mobile phones and CB equipment that use an antenna fitted to the outside of the car should be used whenever possible, also refer 11Mobile phones11 in Chapter 1.

Snow chains should only be used for short distances if the roads are not snow covered. The hard road surface causes rapid wear and the chain may break.

  • Page 97 Chapter 6 EMERGENCIES ACCIDENTS All drivers are advised to learn what to do at the scene of an accident, particularly where people are injured. Injured people can choke to death if their air passages are not cleared, they can bleed to death unless the bleeding is stopped, they may require mouth-to-mouth resuscitation or may have to be moved, even though badly injured.

This can be indicated by the temperature gauge needle moving over to the "H", by steam escaping from under the bonnet, a loss of power or a loud knocking or pinging noise. Please read the following procedure in full before attempting to jump start your car. If after reading the procedure you are still unsure about "jump starting" we strongly recommend for your safety and that of your car that you leave the starting to a competent mechanic.

Front lights To gain access if replacing a bulb on the driver's side: disconnect the battery terminals, remove the battery retaining plate and manoeuvre the battery out of the way. If the car has a V8 engine, the battery has to be removed from the car.

If the coolant requires topping up, mix a solution of 50% Holden's coolant and 50% water in a container. Pour the fluid into the dipstick tube (the same opening as the dipstick is stored in).
