Before You Start

Installing the SPARCstorage
Library
This chapter explains how to install a SPARCstorage Library with a desktop
system in a direct connection, or in a daisy chain connection with other
peripherals.
Before you perform any of the installation procedures:
•
Read the "Safety Agency Compliance" section in the Preface.
•
Protect the tape library from electrostatic discharge (ESD) by placing it on
an antistatic work surface and by wearing an antistatic wrist band. If such a
mat or wristband are unavailable, discharge static electricity from your body
before handling the tape library or the tape drives by touching a known
grounded surface, such as your workstation's metal chassis.
•
Prepare the tape library for installation by determining SCSI bus length.
•
Gather the following tools and equipment:
• Antistatic wrist strap
• ESD mat
• Flatblade screwdriver
• TORX screwdriver with T-20 and T-10 bits
• Container to hold loose screws
