3. Vehicle Overheating

Vehicle overheating means the engine water
temperature is too high. If the water tempera-
ture warning light is flashing, the engine is
overheated. Deal with it according to the fol-
lowing procedure.
3.1. Drive the car carefully off the road and to
a safe place, stop the car, and turn on haz-
ard warning light. Shift the transmission to
"N" (MT) or "P" (AT) and apply parking
brake. Turn the A/C off.
3.2. If there is any outburst of coolant or steam
from the radiator or water tank, stop the
engine immediately. Open the engine
cover when steam disappears. If there is
not outburst of coolant or steam, keep the
engine running and check if the cooling
fan works. If not, turn the ignition switch off.
3.3. Visually inspect if the drive belt (water
pump belt) is broken or loose. Check if
there is any coolant leak from radiator,
hose or under the vehicle. But it is normal
if there is water drained from working A/C.
3.4. If there are any cracks on engine drive belt
or coolant leak, stop the engine right now.
Call Geely service station or qualified
Geely service station for help.
3.5. If the engine driving belt does not have
problem and obvious leak, check the cool-
ant in the radiator and expansion tank. If it
is empty, add coolant into the radiator and
expansion tank to specified scale with the
engine on. Refill it to half full with coolant
when the engine is running.
3.6. When coolant temperature drops to ambi-
ent temperature, check the coolant level in
storage tank again. When necessary, refill it
to required level. Serious coolant loss indi-
cates there is leak in the system. Have the
vehicle inspected at Geely service station.
3.7. When the vehicle is stopped in summer,
the cooling fan often turns on automati-
cally and even may not stop. When this
happens, start the engine and depress the
acceleration pedal several times, the fan
stops quickly.
Warning
To avoid injuries, keep the engine
hood closed till there is no more steam.
Steam and outflow of coolant are signs
of high pressure.
When engine is on, keep hand and
clothes away from working fan and
engine drive belt.
Do not take off the radiator cover
when the temperature of engine and
radiator is very high. Burst of steam
and fluid of high temperature under
pressure can cause serious injuries.
