Hard pedal.
Slippage.
Noisy clutch.
GROVE
PROBABLE CAUSE
Broken intermediate plate.
Intermediate plate sticking on
cover.
Warped or bent driven disc
assembly.
Lever settings wrong.
Worn splines.
Worn or rusty splines on the
splined shaft.
Worn pilot bearing.
Excessive spring pressure in
the cover assembly.
Contact pad of the release
bearing carrier worn by the
shifter shaft.
Oil or grease on the facing.
Loose or worn facings.
Weak pressure springs.
No free pedal.
Release mechanism binding.
Clutch release bearings dry or
damaged.
Flywheel pilot bearing dry or
damaged.
Clutch release bearing
housing striking flywheel ring.

POWER TRAIN
SOLUTION
Replace damaged intermediate
plate driven disc assembly.
Intermediate plate lugs should
have 0.1524 mm (0.006 in)
clearance in driving slots of
flywheel ring (cover).
Replace.
Recheck installation.
Replace driven disc assembly.
Repair or replace.
Replace.
Install the proper cover
assembly.
Replace the carrier and shifter
yoke. Also check for proper
installation to provide the best
linkage operating positions.
Replace facing or install a new
driven disc assembly.
Replace facings or install a new
driven disc assembly.
Replace springs.
Readjust clutch.
Free up mechanism and
linkage, check clutch
adjustment.
Lubricate bearing. Replace if
damaged.
Lubricate bearing. Replace if
damaged.
Adjust clutch. Also check wear
on cross shafts, bell housing
bushings, and release yoke
fingers. If badly worn, replace
parts.
