5.6 Cleaning the System
Health and Safety Hazard! Solvent used to clean parts is potentially dangerous. Follow solvent
manufacturer's safety procedures and recommendations. Avoid inhalation of fumes and also
prolonged contact to skin. Death or serious injury could occur if solvents are not handled
properly.
Fire Hazard! Cleaning solvent, used for maintenance, is flammable and can be explosive
resulting in death or serious injury. Do not smoke. Use cleaning solvent in a well-ventilated area.
Keep cleaning solvent away from ignition sources. Always store cleaning solvent in the proper
marked container.
Freezing/Burn Hazard! Make sure the lights are completely cool before attempting to clean the
light lenses. Wear gloves to protect from exposed metal that may be at extremes of hot and cold
temperatures from sun or cold outdoor exposure.
Pinch Point/Crushing Hazard! Keep clear of moving parts. Be sure to stay clear of system
during operation. Moving parts can crush and cut resulting in serious injury. Do not operate the
mast with any personnel within reach of moving components. Follow the power isolating
procedure before cleaning the mast.
To clean the system:
1. Wipe down the Mast Assembly using a soft cloth or sponge and a mild solution of soapy
water.
2. Wipe down the RCP using a soft cloth or sponge and a mild solution of soapy water.
3. Clean the light and look-up light lenses using a soft cloth and a standard glass cleaner.
