3.4.3 Manual Operation of the Mast

Safety Instruction – Pinching/Crushing Hazard! Never manually operate the mast while
power is still applied to the system. Ensure the Mast System is de-energized and the power
isolation procedure is followed. Any attempt to electrically energize the Mast System when
manually operating the mast may result in injury. Always remove all power to the mast system
prior to maintenance according to the power isolating procedure outlined in this instruction.
If power is lost, it may be necessary to manually operate the mast. When the mast is close to
the fully nested position, it may be necessary to use a ⅜ inch drive 8 inch flexible extension to
operate the Actuator. Will-Burt recommends Snap-On P/N: BLPEXTF388 or equivalent.
To manually operate the mast:
1. Ensure all power has been disconnected from the Mast System.
2. Locate the screw at the back of the Actuator. There may be a label covering the screw. If
necessary, remove the label to access the screw
3. Remove the screw at the back of the Actuator.
4. Once the screw is removed, insert a 6 mm hex wrench with the drive flexible extension
and crank with a manual ratchet wrench. Crank clockwise to lower the mast or
counterclockwise to extend the mast. Do not crank over a torque of 6-8 N·m or 65 rpm.
When lowering the mast, adjust the pan and tilt position of the RCP and Lights as
necessary. The Lights should be rotated so they will be facing down when the mast is
nested. Ensure the payload will not make contact with the saddle or mounting structure
as the mast nests.
Note: If your system includes lights, ensure any lights have cooled completely before
manually panning and tilting.
5. Replace the screw on the Actuator when extension or retraction of the mast is complete.
Note: once the knuckle is no longer blocking the manual operation screw on the back of the
actuator, the flexible drill extender can be removed to direct drive with a ratchet or wrench.
Pulling up on the knuckle while turning the override shaft can reduce the torque required to raise
the mast.
