Pressure)

lating Pressure)

CONTROLLER MODES OF OPERA TION
Permanent Limp - In Mode

t r a n sm ission oper a t ion , it pla ces t h e t r a n sm ission in
per m a n en t Lim p-In Mode. Wh en t h e con dit ion occu r s
t h e TCM t u r n s off a ll solen oids a s well a s t h e sole-
n oid su pply ou t pu t cir cu it . If t h is occu r s wh ile t h e
veh icle is m ovin g, t h e t r a n sm ission r em a in s in t h e
cu r r en t gea r posit ion u n t il t h e ign it ion is t u r n ed off
or t h e sh ift er is pla ced in t h e "P " posit ion . Wh en t h e
sh ift er h a s been pla ced in "P," t h e t r a n sm ission on ly
a llows 2n d gea r oper a t ion . If t h is occu r s wh ile t h e
veh icle is n ot m ovin g, t h e t r a n sm ission on ly a llows
oper a t ion in 2n d gea r.
Temporary Limp - In Mode
Th is m ode is t h e sa m e a s t h e per m a n en t Lim p-In
Mode except if t h e con dit ion is n o lon ger pr esen t , t h e
syst em r esu m es n or m a l oper a t ion .
Under Voltage Limp - In Mode
Wh en t h e TCM det ect s t h a t syst em volt a ge h a s
dr opped below 8.5 volt s, it disa bles volt a ge-depen -
da n t dia gn ost ics a n d pla ces t h e t r a n sm ission in t h e
t em por a r y Lim p-In Mode. Wh en t h e TCM sen ses
t h a t t h e volt a ge h a s r isen a bove 9.0 volt s, n or m a l
t r a n sm ission oper a t ion is r esu m ed.
Hardware Error Mode
Wh en t h e TCM det ect s a m a jor in t er n a l er r or, t h e
t r a n sm ission is pla ced in t h e per m a n en t Lim p-In
Mode a n d cea ses a ll com m u n ica t ion over t h e CAN
bu s. Wh en t h e TCM h a s en t er ed t h is m ode n or m a l

DTCs a r e clea r ed fr om t h e TCM.
Loss of Drive
If t h e TCM det ect s a sit u a t ion t h a t h a s r esu lt ed or
m a y r esu lt in a ca t a st r oph ic en gin e or t r a n sm ission
pr oblem , t h e t r a n sm ission is pla ced in t h e n eu t r a l
posit ion . Im pr oper Ra t io, In pu t Sen sor Over speed or
E n gin e Over speed DTCs ca u se t h e loss of dr ive.
