pseudowires to allow the network to scale. Also, within parts of the aggregation network, MPLS
FRR is used for resilience, requiring dynamic pseudowires. Dynamic to static pseudowire
switching is supported. Also supported is the dynamic-to-static pseudowire for Cpipe services.

High Availability

For Ethernet interfaces, multi-chassis link aggregation groups (MC-LAG) can be used for resilient
access connectivity to controller equipment at the MSC/MTSO service router. If Ethernet
pseudowire is also connected to different PE nodes at the remote end of the connection, redundant
pseudowires can be provisioned to allow recovery for any PE node failure. For ATM and CES
interfaces, 1+1 APS and multi-chassis APS is supported.
For resilient connection out to the BTS, VRRP can be used in some cases. However, as hundreds
of BTS can connect into a single SR, the scale of VRRP instances has increased.
For cases when a 7450-ESS requires SONET interface on the network side due to physical
network connection options, APS protection for that interface is required. The following points
summarize APS enhancements:
Page 86
1+1 APS is supported on SONET/SDH interfaces supported by the 7450-ESS (no
channelization) when operating in network mode.
APS bi-directional mode only is supported (no uni-directional).
APS single chassis mode is supported (both working and protecting ports on the same
7450-ESS).
