ETH-CFM Features

Rate Limiting CFM Messages

To mitigate malicious DOS attack through CFM OAM messages, rate limiting of CFM traffic is
supported.

MIP Provisioning Without Lower Level MEPs

The system supports MIP provisioning without requiring lower level MEPs on the same SAP/
SDP. Network operators can use the default option for mhf-creation for the MA. MIPs then can be
provisioned under the SAP or SDP bindings.
Note that level 0 should be used only for a local segment only so OAM traffic for level 0 will not
transit through the MIP.

Maintenance Entity Group (MEG) ID

Y.1731 is an ITU-T recommendation that specifies mechanisms required to operate and maintain
network and service aspects of the Ethernet layer. Also, it specifies Ethernet OAM frame formats,
syntax, and semantics of OAM frame fields. The OAM mechanisms apply to both point-to-point
ETH connections and multi-point ETH connectivity. The OAM mechanisms are applicable to
environments where the ETH layer is managed by using network management systems and/or
operational support systems.
Like 802.1ag MA, Y.1731 Maintenance Entity Group (MEG) uniquely identifies a group of MEs
that are associated at the same level in one administrative domain.
The features of maintenance entity group identifiers (MEG IDs) are:
The generic format of MEG IDs specific to the recommendation is shown in
7750 SR OS Services Guide
Each MEG ID must be globally unique
Where it may be expected that the MEG may be required for path set-up across an inter-
operator boundary, the MEG ID must be available to other network operators.
The MEG ID should not change while the MEG remains in existence.
The MEG ID should be able to identify the network operator which is responsible for the
MEG.
