1. Obtain a 1756-CP3 serial cable. (You can also use a 1747-CP3
cable from the SLC product family, but once the cable is
connected you cannot close the controller door.)
If you make your own serial cable:

• Limit the length to 15.2m (50 ft).
• Wire the connectors as follows:

• Attach the shield to both connectors.
2. Connect the cable to the controller and to your workstation.
