BUC alarm = Active
Attach to Tx alarm = No
When using L-band, a BUC (Block Up Converter) may be included in the system. A 'smart' BUC
may be monitored and/or controlled via the modem, via FSK. For a modem in a 1:1 redundancy
set-up, the fault indications need to be customized for the physical set-up.
Consider:
Two modems, two BUCs in parallel:
switchover is desired, so you should configure the BUC mask to Attach to Tx alarm.
The other (more regularly encountered) redundancy set-up:
Two modems in parallel, one BUC:
desired. If a fault occurred on the BUC, a switchover of modems could not fix the problem,
so switchover should not occur, so you should configure the BUC mask: Attach to Tx
alarm=No.
If the system had no redundancy, but was attached to an external audio alarm, Attaching to
Tx alarm would cause a BUC fault to be indicated, as the fault would be included in the
FORM C alarms.
