CONFIG: D&I (Drop & Insert)
For a detailed discussion of Drop & Insert, refer to Chapter 9. CLOCK
MODES and DROP & INSERT (D&I).
IMPORTANT
If D&I has not been selected, the menu displays as shown:
Drp-Type= N/A
Ins-Type= N/A
If the modem is configured for QDI (Quad D&I), a different menu will be displayed – please go
to Section 5.4.7.
For one-port Drop & Insert, the menu displays as shown:
Drp-Type= T1-D4
Ins-Type= T1-D4
Note: Drop & Insert operation is a FAST option. Selecting LOOP will tie Drop Data Out (DDO) to
Insert Data Input (IDI) without the user having to externally connect cables to these ports.
Edit the Drop-Type (Drp-Type), Insert-Type (Ins-Type) and Loop (Y/N) using the
keys. Then, using the
Drop-Types and Insert-Types are:
To edit the Channel Timeslots (Chan/TS) for either Drop or Insert, press ENTER to display the
screen featured in the next section.

Select the Channel to edit using the
arrow keys, then press ENTER.
The number of available Channels depends on the data rate. If the data rate is 1920 kbps, then
only the E1 formats are available and the Chan/TS menus are disabled. This is the 'Fixed
Channel Mode' where all timeslots are allocated in order.
