4.3.16 Magnification Button

This button allows changing the magnification. To increase the magnification from the current
level, click the + side; to decrease it, click the – side of the [Magnification] button. The
magnification continuously changes step by step while holding the button. The current
magnification is displayed in the center of the button.
The magnification can also be adjusted by dragging the mouse on the [magnification] button.
(See 4.2.8.2)
There are 43 steps of magnification in total, from 15x to 60,000x, consisting of the following
magnification levels:
15x, 18x, 20x, 25x, 30x, 40x, 50x, 60x, 80x, 100x, 120x, 150x,
180x, 200x, 250x, 300x, 400x, 500x, 600x, 800x, 1,000x, 1,200x,
1,500x, 1,800x, 2,000x, 2,500x, 3,000x, 4,000x, 5,000x, 6,000x, 7,000x,
8,000x, 9,000x, 10,000x, 12,000x, 15,000x, 18,000x, 20,000x, 25,000x, 30,000x
40,000x, 50,000x, 60,000x
The Observation condition ([5kV], [15kV] and [EDX]) and the value of D (i.e. the distance
from a specimen surface to the BSE detector) limits the lowest magnification. Set the
Observation condition and the value of D so as to match your target magnification.
When a display size (see 2.3.7 7 to 10) ranges 150 mm to 168 mm, the lowest magnification
is as below:

NOTE : The value of D is determined by adding 3.5 to the distance from a specimen
surface to a specimen height gauge. Normally, the distance between the topmost
surface of the specimen and the gauge should be set to 1 mm (D4.5).
