Customizing Your System
Setting Up a Fax-On-Demand Mailbox
Note that fax-on-demand mailboxes, like all other mailboxes capable of storing faxes
on your Office PhoneMail system, do not provide unlimited storage capacity. How
much information may be stored (in terms of approximate number of pages) de-
pends entirely on the density of the material being faxed — clearly, dense text or
complicated graphics will require more memory and take up more storage space
than simple text or nearly blank pages.
As a general rule, assume that mailboxes will hold approximately 10 pages of faxed
information each, if a typical page contains approximately 50 kilobytes of memory
storage.
The following instructions explain how to set up a fax-on-demand mailbox (that is, how to ini-
tialize and enter fax documents into it). For detailed instructions on deleting existing fax docu-
ments or changing fax document reference or retrieval numbers, refer to Chapter 8, "Changing
System Settings."
To set up a fax-on-demand mailbox:
1.
Access the system administration menu and enable a mailbox as a fax-on-demand
mailbox.
For detailed instructions on enabling mailboxes, refer to Section 6.5, "Enabling Of-
fice PhoneMail Mailboxes", on page 6-6.
2.
Initialize the fax-on-demand mailbox (change the password and record a greeting).
When recording the mailbox greeting, be sure to include information describing the
faxes contained in the mailbox, and instructions on how to retrieve them.
For detailed instructions on initializing mailboxes, refer to Chapter "Initializing Your
Mailbox" in the Office PhoneMail User Guide .
3.
From the main mailbox menu, to enter fax documents, press
Office PhoneMail will ask whether you are using a fax phone.
You must be using a fax phone in order to enter a fax document for storage in the
fax-on-demand mailbox.
You do not need to call from a fax phone in order to delete or change the number of
an existing fax document.
4.
If you are not using a fax phone, hang up and call back from a fax phone.
If you are using a fax phone, press
Office PhoneMail will note how many fax documents you currently have entered
and will ask whether you want to add a new fax document.
